Vamanos a Sayulita

Let's go to Sayulita

I love Mexico and have visited more times than I can count. To me, the smaller towns are my favorite. I love looking at the quant churches and exploring the culture and traditions of each town.

Sayulita is hailed as a popular off-the-beaten-path travel destination and next on my travel list. Not only is it a gorgeous mecca for both surfers and sunbathers, but offers adventure and culture for any traveler. I love that it is so close to Puerta Vallarta but still a hidden gem.

Thank you to Jessica Dalene for these beautiful pictures of Sayulita!

La Casa de Georgia O'Keefe

Georgia O'Keeffe's House

Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch in New Mexico is neither an Indian house nor a Sapnish house but a perfect home for the talented Georgia O'Keefe who purchased the property from the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in 1945.

"To me, it's the best place in the world," O'Keefe said at age 94. "It has always been secluded and solitary. When I first went there, it was only one house with one room which had a ghost living in it."

The kitchen and breakfast room bost viga and latilla ceilings that open on to her backyard desert. The space remained austere with few furnishings besides the bones and other objects the artist found. "The bones seem to cut sharply to the center of something that is keenly alive on the desert even though it is vast and empty and untouchable- and knows no kindneww with all it's beauty." -Georgia O'Keefe

Vamanos a Oaxaca

Let's go to Oaxaca!

Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most charming cities and is next on my travel list!  Not only is it known for it's amazing cuisine, but has recently been discovered for it's rich architecture, culture and arts.   The cobblestone streets are lined with galleries, local markets and craft fairs making it a paradise for art enthusiasts!  If you are interested in more sights, there are also Indian ruins just outside the town making it a true cultural experience.

I love finding hidden cities in México that are rich in century old traditions and folkore.  Not only are they fun to visit, but give me incredible inspiration for design & estilo!

Here are some of my favorite photos and colors.

Fiesta

Fiesta is one of the most colorful times of year in Santa Barbara and has been part of our culture since 1924.  The people of this town love to celebrate their city's heritage from the Spanish founders and honor the Mexican, Spanish and Native American culture. I love it because no matter what age or background you come from, it's a great opportunity to celebrate with music, dancing and amazing food!

It's also a great way to enjoy some of our beautiful Spanish architecture.  Every day and evening there are beautiful dances and celebrations at the Mission of Santa Barbara and our Courthouse. The streets are full of locals and tourists adorned with beautiful costumes and jewelry.

I like to honor the culture all year round as found in my Estilo-but Fiesta is a great way to kick it off!  Viva LA!!!

Feliz Cumpleaños

Happy Birthday!

It just so happens to be birthday week (for me) and I happen to celebrate my one day, for many days. I thought I would dedicate this week to planning the perfect party for your favorite Leo with a few of the things that me gusta mucho!

Fiesta happens to be a very important occasion in Santa Barbara and with Fiesta celebrations around the corner; the perfect theme is Latina style. Any party is better with colorful decór and a little chips and guacamole. Here are some ways to dress up your home that you can keep all the way through the end of next week... or all year long!

Adding bright colors can give you an element of happy, even when the fiestas are gone. Add a little culture to your pillows too with these beautiful Mexican textiles.

I love these dishes that you can use even when you are no celebrating your birthday! They are fun for even everyday use.
